I have decided to start over on my website. After so many years of seeing the internet grow and change, I am decidedly doing something different with my website. I want to balance availability vs. privacy. I am also thinking more about the purpose of my website, what I really have to say in a public way and the way I like to say it.
As someone who was around since web 1.0, lived through the dotbomb, and continuously stayed curious and played with things with any free time I have, I think I do have something of a benefit I can share here on my own website. I would like to do more longform writing than what is common on most social media, though I will likely still stay on Facebook just because it helps me to keep in touch with so many good people. Not everyone like social media, and I like it less the older I get. Mostly, I do not like the algorithm and I want more control over my feeds than I currently have.
So here are some of the things I plan on doing here:
Write about technology - parental controls, modern web, tools that help me be more productive and enjoy life.
I might also write about education and my experience with modern parenting, with 3 kids, with ADHD, and with being a hockey.
I might also write about general observations about what is going on in the world.
I like staying in touch with people I know, so I still like to have a web presence of some sort so people can find me, even if they are not on Facebook.
I enjoy playing with things, so I have also decided to use my domain to experiment with creative ways of hosting websites. While Wordpress is what I started with, there are literally many more options out there. In fact, Wordpress is not really for small businesses anymore, and probably not also the case with nonprofits.
